Better Gelato!

gusto_mese.jpg

A friend of mine once told me that no gelato could top the real gelato from Italy. Certainly not what passes for gelato in Little Italy. Even Ciao Bella elicited an, “eh” from him. Il Laboratorio del Gelato fared worse.
Perhaps that will change now. Courtesy of that nifty little corner of the web known as Daily Candy, I cannot wait to personally trek to Glom, located at 2165 Broadway (between 76th and 7th streets), to sample the sweets at the first U.S. location of this Italian company. The crema de Grom sounds divine: “egg cream, chunks of biscuit and flecks of chocolate.”
Something tells me that will elicit far more than an “eh” out of my friend.

please let me know how it is. I love gelato in Italy. If this tastes the same then it’s a miracle of miracles!

This was also in famed community newspaper The New York Times a week ago.

That’s fantastic, Ben! And what’s go great about our little Metblogs community is how people like you read little ol’ unknowns like the New York Times to keep on the cutting, underground scene and then report back to us here!

I’m Italian but I’ve heard of them. I’ll try their gelato and let you know what I think!

A gelato fan’s work is never done-Il Laboratorio, Grom-been there, done that. Check out the coffee espresso gelato at the Ciao Bella cafe at 285 Mott Street-get a slice of pizza down the street, then cleanse the palate with this amazing stuff.

I tried it yesterday. It was real gelato, on par with what I ate in Italy. Everything else I’ve eaten in the states has just been ice cream.

    i recommend!

    THIS IS NOT FRESH GELATO!!!!!!!
AND GELATO HAS TO BE FRESH, MADE ON THE PREMISES FROM SCRATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHERE IS THE DELICACY AND CARE OF “GROM GELATO” WHEN THEY HAVE TO MASS PRODUCE GELATO FOR THEIR 20 ITALY SHOPS????
THIS GELATO COMES FROZEN FROM ITALY AND THEN AFTER DEFROSTING THE MIXES THEY MADE THE GELATO IN NEW YORK!!!!!!
ONLY STUPID WOULD PAY THAT PRICE FOR A PRODUCT MADE WHO KNOWS WHEN.

ADVICE : ASK FOR THE STAMP ON THE BAG WHERE IT WAS SHIPPED TO CHECK THE PRODUCTION DATE.
