Giant Fire in Greenpoint

I woke up this morning with a sore throat and figured it meant I’ve been drinking too much lately. Then I looked out the window of my Williamsburg apartment and saw the real reason:

When I saw the smoke and helicopters, I headed for my computer, repeating “Please don’t be a terrorist attack. Please don’t be a terrorist attack” in my head, until NY1.com informed me that a warehouse in Greenpoint is on fire.

Residents in the area say the warehouse is abandoned and first indications are that no one has been injured.

I guess it sucks for the person who owns the warehouse, and for all of us with smoky lungs, but I’m just relieved it’s not anything worse.

great photo. my friend told me about the fire this morning but he didn’t have a camera…it’s good that no one got hurt.

    terrorists wouldn’t attack greenpoint I don’t think . . .

Yeah, I guess greenpoint’s an unlikely terrorist target. But I had just woken up when I saw the smoke, and I didn’t stop to think about which way my window was facing.

I first saw the fire on the news, then on the way to the train station this morning, and now from the office window in midtown. It’s definitely heartbreaking to view…
