Celebrity Sighting: Is This It?

On this too freaking cold Saturday (see Lisa’s post below), around 3 pm today, my friend and I were on a mission to find the best Vietnamese Banh Mi (Sandwich) shop in Manhattan.

Our test took us downtown to Chinatown, where we ended up at Banh Mi So 1 on Broome and Mott streets. While biting into the warm and crusty french baguette, I looked out the window and saw 2 members of The Strokes (the lead singer Julian Casablanca and another) walk past the restuarant.

I quickly grabbed my friend and my sandwich and ran outside for a fast picture. One block became three blocks, and before I knew it we were stalking them. The lead singer started to walk in a faster pace, moving his hand to cover his face every few seconds.

Standing at the corner, where I was finally ready to give up, I pulled out my camera phone and ‘pretended’ to take a picture of the street.

Not that anyone bought my lame attempt. That’s when it hit me, I became a celebrity stalker.

Damn the cold for getting to my head.

Even still, I had one of those randomly fun New York moments, following indie rocker boys, on a freezing cold Saturday afternoon.

Not too long ago – when the weather was a bit warmer, here’s what happened. We went out to NYC on a nice day and saw in the following order:

    Minnie Driver, West Village
Toral from the Apprentice, on 5th ave
Ethan Hawke, 6th ave and 57th street

We didn’t take photos or do anything, but when I said “oh that was ethan hawke” in a casual way, my sister freaked and ran in his direction. But Ethan seemed to be on speed or some such substance and she was gone for about 5 minutes. When she returned she told us that she had ran past him, and casually turned around to get a better look at his face. She did. Apparently he was hot.

Once you’ve been around the city a while, just like anything else, that becomes routine too. So, I’m sure the next time you run into whoever – you won’t repeat the same actions . . . unless you’re being paid by The Enquirer or some such place.

I almost never see celebrities, and if I do, I usually just stare at them awkwardly trying to figure out how we know each other.

Sorry don’t mean to spoil the fun, but Julian Casablancas and the Strokes were playing in London, UK, on Saturday 18/2:

Shit, I was chasing down the wrong people! LOL. Thanks for clearing that up for me! At least now, I don’t feel so bad for harassing normal people. Cheers ;)
