Yesterday a comedian dear to my heart and indeed a central part of my early teens passed away. Its funny how this can affect a person, but it did and forever more will the sketch in the hardware store about ‘Four candles’ be etched in my comedic psyche.

Thanks to the Guardian here are a few gags.

Right, to New York.

After coming off the plane from JFK I began to lose count of the Yankees tops I saw in London. On our second last day when the Yankees were shaping for a possible decider with the Sox a TV channel stopped a few punters in , where else? Times Square. One guy who was stopped was English yet was wearing a Yankee cap. It was a fashion statement he said. You know, its true. The Yankees I have realised now exist in a place that nolonger needs baseball. They’re the Manchester United of baseball, the Mets are the Manchester City.

I was going to write a long piece about the differences that i could see and feel b/w the two halves of NyLon. However, I’m tired and can’t find the words. This is probably my last post for the NYC site. I might write that piece in the next few days if Dana lets me. In the meantime, its been great and when you come to London drop me a line so we can go for a beer.

Ciao.

Sean

A big part of me doesn’t want to go home. I miss London and all it has to offer, but there is so much here that makes New York such a cool city. We’ll be back and I hope its not another five years till return.

Thanks everyone for making us so welcome.

Ah memories of tv shows past…

Right, to business. Last night I met the NYC massive in the Pioneer bar on Bowery and it was a great night. I’d say a sobering experience, but in truth my head still hurts from all the beer. Dana, Chris, Melissa, Michael, Anna and Lisa were there as well as a few others whose names I didn’t catch. Melissa made a memorable entrance, stayed a while then headed north again from whence she came.

We all chatted, swapped stories and had a really good time. Did I feel like a fish out of water? hell no. I was made to feel really welcome. A couple of my friends came by as well, which was nice adding to the mix. The bar filled up in no time and had a really good vibe to it and at the end of the evening the non-smoking thing did make a real difference. A great evening.

So far we’ve done the shopping , ridden the m15/m06 buses (great ways to see New York) and shopped. Is it cheaper here? Yes, but you’ll need to buy in bulk to make good the savings. Today we’ll head for South Ferry and head out to Staten Island. When we get there we’ll turn right around and head back. After that we’ll head for DUMBO and finish off the evening with a walk back across the Brooklyn Bridge.

I hope to post a bit more, but we fly back tomorrow so maybe not. Next week I’ll be posting some pics. Till then take care.

Ciao.

Yesterday was our first full, jetlag nolonger a problem, day. We did MOMA in the morning and jumped the queues thanks to a friends ‘corp’ guests card ;-) What was it like? I was impressed, especially with the galleries that housed the Matisses, Picassos & other late 19th/early 20th century masterpieces. There were a few pieces I’d seen before at the Tate Modern such as a set of photographic portraits taken of four Canadian sisters from 1975 till this year, amazing. However, the true test of any modern art gallery/museum’s worth to the average punter is the …….shop. Here MOMA scored highly and add to that the staff were really friendly.
Lambardi’s was the lunch venue and after the pizzas we had I willl never, I repeat never again darken the door of Domino’s or Pizza Hut. The pizza was perfection, simple as that. The meatballs were soooooo tender as to melt in the mouth. If you haven’t been yet, then get your arse down there soon. After we left we went past a place called Rice to Riches. How can simple Rice Pudding be made to taste soo good. I had a single scoop of some raspberry thingy and it was a joy from first to last slurp. However, it was not quite as good as ‘the original chinatown ice cream factory’ at 65 Bayward Street. Now, that WAS good. We finished off the day with a quick visit to Times Square for the lights and then headed home.
Today is our third anniversary. What are we going to do? Grand Central Stn, followed by a light lunch and then in the evening we’ll head out for a steak ;-)
Damn, I forgot to add. Yesterday we did some majot retail therapy. Thank you Banana Republic for men, you can’t come to London fast enough. When you do, please keep the same prices.
