Ice Skate For Free in Bryant Park

This article in the NYT today made me giddy!
I especially like the smarty pants that said this:
“It’s freezing out there from Nov. 1 to March 31 and sometimes later - and so for five months we do nothing,” said Daniel A. Biederman, executive director of the Bryant Park Restoration Corporation. “So we said, ‘Let’s make Bryant Park usable in the winter.’ “
Brilliant!
But really, the best part is that it’s free. Skates cost $7.50 to rent. Maybe it’s time to head to the next Goodwill and try to find a pair of used skates for the winter.
Now, if we can just get vendors selling hot cider, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, and potato pancakes around the ice rink it’ll be almost as awesome as the ice rinks in Vienna. But I guess as long as that’s not happening we can just fill up our thermoses with the aforementioned beverage of choice and chill out on the bleachers until we’re ready to hit the ice.
I almost can’t wait for October 28. This makes it weird to remember that the high today is in the 80s.

I’m not sure about potato pancakes, but there will be a booth offering hot apple cider and apple pasteries and doughnuts.
