Totally of subject here… but I just had to say, all your subway shots are making me homesick! *sob*

    I miss NY.

Ok, get over yourself, you’re being completely elitist.

I love the Post, it’s quick, easy and transparent. There is no effort made to mask their bias, and frankly, that’s refreshing.

The New York Times isn’t exactly gospel either, In the past 2-3 years they’ve had the Jason Blair fabrications, Judith Miller’s WMD and Niger Uranium screwups, the reprinting of the conspiracy theories about Bush’s debate bulge and backroom deal not to report both sides of the Columbia anti-Semitism report. Oh, and Maureen Dowd hasn’t been funny since Clinton was president. That’s just off the top of my head. The Post looks pretty good by comparison.

Also, if you want to have any understanding of issues relating to cops, firefighters or any number of other groups, you’ve got to read the Post. I do not think I’ve ever seen a cop reading the Times.

All of this is moot however, we’re on the Internet now and single sources of news are completely antiquated. Relying on any one source is irresponsible.

Guilty pleasure is that I too love the Post. Well Page Six, but that’s the Post to me. I don’t read it for my news, I read it for the gossip. It’s like 3AM in the Daily Mirror back in England.

It’s like the Life Section in USA Today. whenever I stay at a hotel, I don’t actually read the complementary USA Today left at my door, I instead just “casually paruse” the Life Section and get all my entertainment gossip to fuel my conversations throughout the day.

Okay, let me and try to respond to you all as succinctly as possible:

zee, I’m sorry that you’re homesick, but I’d probably be too. New York is great, and I do love my subway. Are you visiting somewhere, or did you move?

Joe, you’re right. It is very elitist of me to hate on the Post the way I did. But, it really is my opinion that it’s a terrible paper. Your assumption, however, that I would favor The Times and your subsequent attack of that publication is incorrect and unnecessary. And, what do ya know? You’re right again. This IS all moot, because as you said, relying on one source is irresponsible, and this is something I never do, in addition to never relying on the Post.

EXCEPT! And this is in response to Tessa and mrsmogul, I DO read Page Six. I’m obsessed with the entertainment and media industries, and Page Six really is a staple that I cannot ignore. But, I read it online, so I never have to actually touch a Post.

The reasons I can think of that people read The Post over the more accurate Times is:

    1) it confirms their preexisting biases

    2) it doesn’t condescend to them

    3) i’ve heard, although can’t confirm, that it has a much better sports section

    4) it writes about new york

    5) it’s “zesty”

Now, why they read it over the Daily News or Newsday, I can’t say, other than maybe a combination of #1 and #5.

Easy! People read the Post because it’s 25 cents.

Saurav, the sports section of the Post is pretty good. I would just think that any sports fanatic would be able to find all that news elsewhere, though. Number one in your list of reasons is pretty accurate.

Anna, you deserve a prize. That’s the answer I was assuming most people would consider the correct one. The cost of the Post is why I think SO MANY people read it. I hate that it’s so cheap. But, I’d still take AM New York or the Metro — they’re free AND the kind of quick read most commuters have time for.

25 cents for a good sports read on the way to work is enough reason for me.
