I would recommend, however, finding a boat tour that goes by them at night, as they are lit up in the evening and I feel that this would be far more impressive. The RocksOff concert series which features various musical acts on a few boats that go out through the NYC waterways mentioned that they are specifically going to go by the Waterfalls so that people who aren't interested in dealing with the tourist-y nature of most of the boat tours can still enjoy it while also enjoying a concert. I will be going to one of those shows in August and I'm quite happy to get this little bonus. I took a boat tour with a small company that operates off Pier 59 and got my tickets from Goldstar events for only $22, and it comes with a few glasses of complimentary champagne. It was nice (although I could have done without the screaming children who were with the people sitting by us on the boat), and I got some great shots since the boat had a small deck area where you were unobstructed by windows.
