Lorne Michaels on the Street

lorne%20michaels.jpgJust wanted to let you know that as soon as I got out of work this evening in the middle of the fashion district, Lorne Michaels was walking straight towards me.

I looked at him and thought of saying “Hey Lorne, SNL SUCKS” but I resisted as I haven’t watched the show in quite some time now.

He’s quite chubby in real life and seems like a good guy and if you think about it he’s responsible for some of the funniest people in television and films today. Wow.

I always wince when I hear people say SNL sucks, because I still pretty much never miss an episode. I soldier through the bad shows, waiting for them to knock one out of the park. I realized recently that SNL for me is like the Mets are for a lot of my friends — I can’t help but root for them, even when they let me down, and I’m as happy when that theme song comes up and Don Pardo starts calling off the names as other people are when "Meet the Mets" starts playing on the Shea Stadium PA.

That’s great of you Tim. And people like you are one of the reasons SNL continues to be on the air. And to take your analogy further, New Yorkers would be devastated if anything happened to yet another one of their baseball teams. So to keep tradition going, they keep them around.
