Taxi strike vs. fashionistas

For those of you who don’t know because you haven’t been watching NY1 as they breathlessly cover the UNHOLY HORROR that has befallen our fair city, there is a taxi strike going on that started today. Though the mayor says it only is affecting maybe 20% of the total number of cabs in the city and there are still cabs on the street, there are contingency plans in effect that are similar to the ones that were going on when the transit strike happened right before Christmas ‘05 (ride sharing, zone fares, etc.). But this strike has a twist: it’s going on during fashion week.

So what are the fashionistas to do? I know the designers and top models probably have car services and limos to carry them to their shows so they can do lines of coke off each other get ready in private, but, oh, those poor girls headed to the shows in their 4″ heels. I envision many heel-caught-in-subway-grating incidents, as well as an upswing in the amount of blister remedies sold at Duane Reade stores near Bryant Park. Alternately, they could all just put on flats. But that’s crazy talk.
