Music in the Park

After the rain out last week, yesterday marked the annual free NY Philharmonic Central Park concert. I like to take advantage of all the free NYC summer events, so I go to this concert every year. Yesterday, we brought a blanket, a tasty food spread, and a bottle of red. (It’s odd; at this event every year the open container law appears to be suspended. Everyone is drinking wine in the park.)

As usual, the park was packed. Luckily, I had a friend whose job ends before 5 (wouldn’t it be nice) who saved us a nice spot. The music started at 8:00, right around dusk. While I appreciate the music, I enjoyed most the atmosphere and the company. Eating crackers with brie and chatting as it got darker and darker in the park. The show ended in a fireworks display.

I’m looking forward to the next free event I plan on attending, Shakespeare in the Parking Lot.
