Bright light city gonna set my soul on fire
I went to watch the New York Philharmonic at Central Park tonight. The event was spectacular, the music was perfect, the New Yorkers were at their best & worst behavior. When thousands of people gather for a free classical music concert, fun times will definitely ensue.
There was a particularly rotund & pale fat man who did not take too kindly to the people passing through the narrow patches of grass, dirt and blankets. He felt violated when his sheets kept getting stepped on. The couple in front of us were with him. They couldn’t stand the fact that all these people were traversing through their “private space.” But they were right in their own way. Having saved seats for a few hours when the majority of the crowd just started showing up half an hour in advance to the 8 pm show time, they must have felt cheated.
But such is the life of a free concert. Between the arguments, dirty looks, the music was playing. It was absolutely perfect, nothing more beautiful could have been happening at that very time in NYC. It felt like the only right place to be. In the back, a skyline consisting of the GE building; above rain clouds traveling, all around us lush trees, cool breezes, and the personality of New York.
