Beach Party in Queens

I first heard about Water Taxi Beach Harry’s from a co-worker who enjoys hitting the “it” spots. When he described the bar’s sandy beach, lively scene, and waterfront view of the city skyline, I was totally sold.

Located in Long Island City, this beach bar lives up to expectations. The entire bar is outside, on a sandy beach (don’t know where they got all the sand from) with a couple of tents and tables set up. The breathtaking view shows the skyline including the Chrysler and Empire States buildings. I arrived there last night just before 8, in time to watch to the sun set.

A popular place, the beach bar already had a line when I got there. I just missed the small admission fee ($3- $5) that they charge after 8. The lines for entrance and drinks got longer as the night went on, so I’d recommend arriving before 8 for speedy admission and ordering. The drink prices are decent, $5 for wine and beer, $7 for sangria.

Spots on the sand also fill up later in the night. Luckily, last night, a friend happened to have a beach blanket with her, perfect for us all to just plop down on the beach with our strawberry daiquiris and sangria.

Music played while the sun set and the lights of Manhattan started glowing. As I watched a hilarious neon palm tree lighting the beach, I decided this bar is a new favorite of mine.

The sand came from New Jersey. Thanks for the great writeup — this place is definitely living up to the hype.
