Credit Card Minimums are my pain

We went to Central Park yesterday. Being that it was 80 degrees we wanted some cold water before we headed into the heat. Not having any cash and not having seen any of the ATMs nearby, we walked into a deli. You know the kind that shelves everything from pepto bismol to gourmet cheese.

This one was called Manhattan Gourmet Deli or something right off of the F stop on 57th street. They had a spread of dubious oily buffets which I guess was the gourmet part of it. Filled with items a vegetarian like myself cannot do anything with but stare at and wonder at the abundance of these types of buffets in Manhattan.

So we need 2 waters, we go to the counter, pull out a credit card. We’re hit with the “Sorry. $10 minimum required.”

Actually, jerks, it’s NOT required. You are not allowed to have minimums as stipulated by the contract you signed with the credit card companies to enable you to accept payments.

By the law, you are supposed to accept the credit card or we could call up AMEX, Mastercard, VISA, and Discover to report your ass. But I didn’t want to get into trouble, my sister, however did mind so she went and complained to the owner who just said she should get money out of the ATM.

I understand that rent is high. But I also understand you’re at one of the most lucrative locations in Manhattan being situated next to a fucking subway stop, near Central Park, next to those annoying horse carriages, filled with traffic from tourists, runners, office-workers, and everyone else.

Do you think you could learn to follow the rules and accept a goddamn plastic transaction?

Just pay for the person behind/in front of you and ask for cash.

I doubt visa or mastercard would do anything to them as they are making money off them.

You are not a party to whatever contract the merchant may or may not have with the financial institution (or, for that matter, the transaction processor). If A breaches a contract with B, C has no legal recourse if B simply doesn’t care about it.

Meanwhile, the response to your “it’s the law” (it’s not) gripefest could be that the merchant may stop taking credit cards altogether. I guess that would be a victory in your world.

Stated differently, grow up and manage your pocket cash better.

Kipes, to be honest, I think I am more in agreement with your personal attacks a lot more than your idiotic references to no third party may be involved with contract between entity A & B.

Entity B is in business with entity A because they expect third parties such as my low-in-pocket change self to benefit from it.

    Thanks for the advice.

Gotta have cash with you at all times. How can you go outside without $2?

More importantly - why did you buy anything from them at all? the obviously didn’t want your business.

Vote with your dollars; it’s a language they understand.
