Nothing is certain but !@&*ing taxes
As you hopefully know, this year good ol’ tax day, usually on April 15, has been moved to today because April 15 fell on a weekend. Yippee. Since I owe money this year, I have put off mailing my paperwork in because I like to hang onto my hard-earned cash as long as possible before releasing it into the wilds of bureaucratic governmental expenditures. So, I’m heading off to my local post office on 23rd Street to stand in what I hope won’t be an insanely long line with my fellow procrastinating taxpayers.
Now, according to the U.S. Postal Service, they have extended hours at some locations so that people can get their tax forms postmarked with today’s date, but when I do a search on their website for operating hours, it just returns the standard hours. The extended hours are pretty normal on tax day; the USPS seems to do that every year. So I think I’ll just head on over now and hope the line, if any, doesn’t last past midnight.
Update: The line was about 30 minutes long, and I asked the very friendly gentleman who weighed and sent my packages to the IRS which locations had extended hours. He said the main post office and the branch on Church Street would be open until midnight. To confirm, or find one near you, call 800-ASK-USPS.
