Hamburgers & Cupcakes

http://nyc.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/04/Photo%2053-thumb.jpgWalking down through Chelsea in the morning is a trick. You must know where to eat, there are places that are closed at 7 in the morning and others like the bagel/coffee and Starbucks that you can always rely on. Right in the middle of 7th and 23rd is possibly the grossest combination of items I have ever witnessed; a restaurant itself named “Hamburgers & Cupcakes” . . . gross.

Thank goodness it was closed. But what I did find was businessmen roaming about in a quaint little place on 22nd and 7th. Here I drank coffee and listened into the conversations.

“Who’s going to be kicked off”

“Well Sanjaya really knows what he’s doing; he’s not all that stupid,” said one

And they continued naming other American Idol contestants that they felt were either going to make it or not in the big contest. I just sat there enjoying my coffee and listening to this bunch. It was quite refreshing, definitely more so than any hamburgers and cupcakes.

They have a giant pink frosted cupcake named the Fairy Cupcake; they certainly can’t be all that bad. ;-)

The combination alone makes me want to hurl and not walk inside. It’s a disastrous combination as far as sex appeal goes.

Dhaval, you are not supposed to eat the two together… It is dinner and desert.

Also, aren’t you a vegetarian? So wouldn’t hamburgers with any other food make you kind of sick?

I am a vegetarian. But I just replace burgers with veggie burgers in my mind and it still makes a gross combination. Maybe it’s the image, maybe it’s the words put together. Maybe it’s the thought of slaughtered cows combining with innocent cute cupcakes.

Maybe it’s all of the above. Maybe I should write a poem.

I personally think this sounds like a brilliant combination. at 7 am i can see how this sounds unappealing, but let the day work up that appetite and yummmm-o!
