McCann’s in Astoria is a great Irish pub with some great nightly deals. In addition to Ladies’ Night and their other specials, it also offers a deal where the last Thursday of your birthday month, you can drink there for free.

McCann’s has a quaint Irish exterior and inside, typical pub booths, pool tables, and many tv screens (that I’m not a fan of) which play the big sports game of the day. It’s a bit loud and crowded, so I don’t go often. But I do like to go the last Thursday in March to take advantage of their birthday deal.

My first year in Astoria, I had planned to partake in their birthday deal, but no one would go with me. Everyone kept saying, “I have to work tomorrow”, which, since I was working only part-time then, seemed like a sad excuse. Finally, one housemate came home and heard my tragic missing of McCann’s birthday deal and agreed to go. Well, by this time it was 10. And the birthday deal only runs till 11.

We walked over to the bar and I quickly ordered a vodka cranberry ( my standard mixed drink of the time). I managed to drink it quick enough to order two more within the span of an hour to get as much out of the deal as possible. I’m a rather petite person and three hard drinks in one hour may not have been the best idea.

Well, sometimes you have to make sacrifices to take advantage of a good deal.
