Sunny and Gay

This weather is amazing. I have been so ready for spring. We went to Xes Lounge to celebrate the weather and my friend’s birthday.

Xes is a gay bar in Chelsea with an awesome outdoor patio, perfect for a day like yesterday. The patio has seats and bench-like tables available. The inside is dimly lit with some interesting artwork on the walls and a small seating area. A popular place, the bar (particularly the patio) was packed yesterday.

We strolled there after work to meet my friend and his coworkers, who were all teachers and, thus had been drinking for several hours. I knew I’d never be able to catch up to them. But they had accrewed a whole slew of free drinks from the happy hour 2 for 1 special. I luckily did not need to pay for one drink! With all the merriment and the weather, it felt like summer. But, unfortunately, no time off!

I’m always on the lookout for good happy hour places, gay or straight, where you can find a seat and hear each other talk. If you have a suggestion for one, I’ll check it out and maybe post about it.

Ah, I love the XES patio. Much less pretty but still an outdoor area is the…well, now I’ve blanked on the name. It’s a “famous” bar in Hell’s Kitchen which has hot dogs as the bar snack food and a giant anthropomorphized pig out front.

I’ll have to do some research and check it out. The pig sounds awesome.

    that would be rudy’s.

i believe the same people now own another bar down the street (circus, or something) where they also do the free hot dog thing–though it lacks pretty much all the character of rudy’s.

but if rudy’s is packed and you’re dying for a drink and a free hot dog, i guess it would be worth a try.
