Tea, Brides, and Bogart

I attended a very unique bridal shower yesterday. I knew the event involved afternoon tea, but I had pictured an English tea and biscuits with clotted cream place. Instead, the atmosphere was very different. Exotic decor with incense burning, all at a place called The Casablanca Tea Room.
Located in Soho, this hidden gem is filled with beautiful light fixtures, candles, bowls of water with petals floating. I had worked in this area for a year and never knew of this tea room’s existence. For the bridal shower, we had a section of tables reserved, perfect for an elegant gathering. While the movie Casablanca mutely played on a loop on a white curtain above, we mingled over glasses of wine and the smell of incense.

The refreshments consisted of delicious finger sandwiches, all vegetarian. After the sandwiches, a server came out with Mint Tea, which she deftly poured into a row of small glasses at once. The bride opened presents while we drank this tasty tea and ate baklava. We finished the afternoon with a champagne toast and discussion of the upcoming bachlorette debauchery.
This establishment seemed a perfect place for gatherings, or just a quiet drink. I definitely plan to go there again.
