Booby Trap or What

I know people do fucked up things in this city, but I sure hope that this mornings incident was an oversight and not some prank.

After spending the night taking care of a sick friend in the neighborhood (you see, I CAN be nice) I headed back home to get ready for work. I guess it’s garbage day since everyone brought the bags out from the locked cages out onto the street. For some reason, I didn’t see this string or whatever was tied or stuck from the garbage cage to the end of the sidewalk. I guess my radar is just looking for dog shit and vomit.

Anyway, my ankles got all caught up in it, I lost my balance and fell face forward onto the pavement. Lucky for me, I had my phone in my hand and that stopped my face from getting smashed, but it didn’t help my knee, elbows and wrists from getting all banged up an bruised. Basically, it must have looked like one of those cartoons when someone ties a string low to the ground from one tree to another to trip someone. Just not as graceful. Oh, and my phone is pretty smashed too, so I can’t actually make calls, but I can answer the phone if it rings - and being the city girl that I am, I don’t have a home phone. I know, who cares about the phone. I am certainly grateful that I didn’t break any bones, I’ll just be sore for the next few days.

I got up immediately since the adrenalin was pumping and I was feeling no pain - so I didn’t bother going back to look and see whether or not the string was tied up OR, if it just got caught onto something when someone took the garbage out. I guess I’ll never know.

Either way, it has now been added to the mental list things that I look out for while walking the streets.

hey Melissa–I hope you are okay! Almost the exact same thing happened to my boyfriend a few years ago but he broke his fall with his arms. He thought he was fine but a few hours later his arms locked up and we went to the emergency room. It turned out he fractured both of his wrists and sprained both of his elbows!!! So yeah, I’m always on the lookout for that kind of stuff.

Thanks Dana. I’m ok, just starting to get all sore now on my wrists and elbows. This is when the fun begins!
