Shovelin’ Snow

A friend called me last night to complain about a bizarre decision the city made: the parking rules are in effect today. Mayor Bloomberg (God bless those who live in an alternate reality) even held a press conference in which he essentially said, “suck it up and deal with it.”
My thoughts lie somewhere in the realm of why? The street plows are only going to pile it on the sidewalks, where milions of feet will slip, slide and grind it to mush, whereupon it will seep right back into the street.
Right now, the driving portion of the streets are fine. Enough shovelers and pedestrians have carved out paths on the sidewalks. Why muck it all up by taking snow that is mostly out of the way and shove it where it doesn’t need to be?
Suck it up, indeed.

Keep in mind that this was the same Mayor Bloomberg who suggested that New Yorkers all ride $600 bicycles to work during a transit strike — including in winter, one must conclude.
