All Vehicles May be Inspected

I just returned from picking up my mom at JFK. As I sped through the exit from the Belt Parkway onto JFK Expressway I read a sign that was beyond nerveracking. All Vehicles May Be Inspected. Talk about the Patriot Act at work. I’m not sure how long the sign has been up but I don’t recall ever reading it before. Maybe it was there prior to 9/11 but I doubt it was…just another step in further intruding the lives of innocent New Yorkers.

It is odd reading a sign that says that you have no rights in a certain area. If I was on the Belt Parkway driving and was pulled over, the cops would need a warrant to do a search. But if I had gone .1 of a mile onto that exit – I suddenly lose all my rights.

Homeland Security, I salute you.

This is one of those moments where I go off on a rant and then am accused of being anti-American and pro-terrorist by wingnuts who would gladly sacrifice everything which makes this country great in favor of some kind of psychosomatic security over an unspecified danger.
    Instead, I’ll just fume inwardly.

Fuming inwardly is awesome – especially if you’re in a room full of these so-called wingnuts and you happen to express your disdain by a release of these fumes through the rear. ahahahahaha. =)

I found out this was happening at the Austin airport a couple of years ago. You can opt out by not driving up to the terminal, but instead parking farther away.

    I still don’t like it.

Yeah, I’m not OK with the policy at all. It’s not really going to help – a better thing to do would be to increase intelligence and attack the problem in an organized sense of fashion.

If watching United 93 taught me anything at all, it was that we don’t have a goddamn clue.
