Sex Offender Mania

fearmonger.bmp

Am I the only one who thinks, on the surface, this report is designed for a bit of political grandstanding and fear mongering?
I don’t know enough about Congressman Anthony Weiner but his commissioning of this report seems a bit…spurious at best.
670 of the city’s sex offenders live near middle and elementary schools. That’s a sobering statistic…except there’s not a spot within 25 blocks of my apartment you could live and NOT be within 10 city blocks of an elementary or middle school. That’s a near-impossible feat to accomplish.
This whole ordeal reeks of the sort of fear mongering our nation’s leaders have increasingly resorted to in order to make people believe they’re actively attempting to protect us from “dangers.”

Agreed…who’s to even say that all sex offenders prey on children anyay?

Good call, Eric! There is virtually nowhere you can go in the four boroughs (excluding Staten) that is not within a short 5-7 block walk of a school. That report sounds totally out-of-context.

And not all sex offenders are crazy lunatics. I personally know 2 guys on the sex offenders list. They were put there at the ages of 19 and 20 by upset parents of 2 separate 17 year old girls that they had been dating and sleeping with. Parents got pissed. Parents pressed charges…they are now sex offenders for life.

I’ll look around and post a link on this article eventually, but is everyone aware of the story down in Georgia? I kept from referencing it since this here’s a New York blog…but the situation there is ridiculous. 17 year old boys received fellatio from a 15 year old girl. Georgia law states oral sex 2 years of age apart is a sex crime. Girl, girl’s mom, girl’s lawyer ALL Testify that girl initiated the act. Georgia DA pushes, gets a couple of pleas and the main boy involved goes to full trial and is convicted. They’re ALL now sex offenders. For life. For doing what kids do in high school and SURPISINGLY while still a minor.
Our puritanical code makes me livid sometimes.

Are you the only one who smells a foul odor coming from Weiner & Towns? You betcha… and now it’s time to find out what they’re trying to hide and trying to distract attention away from.

I just noticed I messed up by comment, Oops, sorry. What I meant to write is that Eric isn’t the only person that finds something disingenuous about it all.
