President Bush Jumps on the Autrey Bandwangon
During last night’s State of the Union address, President Bush singled out Wesley Autrey and said of him, “There is something wonderful about a country that produces a brave and humble man like Wesley Autrey.”
For those of you who don’t know/remember, Wesley Autrey was the man who saved a teens life who fell onto the subway tracks during a seizure.
I think it’s great that Autrey is getting recognition, and even some money, out of his selfless act. I also enjoy watching all those that want to be associated with him for their own publicity.
Rep. Joseph Crowley of Queens said of Bush’s shout-out, “That’s wonderful. Often times people have a misconception of New Yorkers, of their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way, and he’s a great example of a true New Yorker.”‘
Really? The rest of the world may view us as rude and uncaring, but cowards? I didn’t know we were viewed as cowards.

It was ammusing to watch him be signled out. He clearly was uncomfortable with the whole thing… He kept giving an awkward thumbs up to Bush, and waving, and blowing kisses to the audience, like he had just won an Oscar.
It was nice to see an everyday hero get some recognition, and his discomfort only further displays his humility.
