Adventures in Dim Sum

I met up with some former housemates at the Vegetarian Dim Sum House in Chinatown. We had all lived together at one point, united by our common use of craigslist. I was excited to try out this restaurant since I enjoy Dim Sum, but find eating it can be confusing since it’s hard to tell what you’re eating. As a vegetarian, this poses a problem since it can be challenging knowing what items contain meat. At this place, we might not know what we were eating, but we would know that it wasn’t meat.

After everyone sat down, we decided to each pick one or two items to order; I ordered the fried bean curd. We all caught each other up on our lives, where we work, where we live, etc. When the food arrived, we couldn’t really tell which was which. I liked the green dumpling thingies the best, though the doughy red-filled somethings were surprisingly good. What appeared to be my bean curd, however, had an unfortunate soft texture, of which I didn’t approve.

The meal was tasty, filling, and cheap. Under $30 for 4 people! We left the restaurant discussing when we would next see each other, and thinking about the delicious mixture of good food and old friends.
