Spring in the City

At first this ridiculously warm weather upset me, but I have to admit that yesterday I enjoyed it. While I love snow (which it seems we won’t see this winter), I couldn’t help but enjoy walking around in the spring weather.
I decided to take advantage of the warmth by visiting one of my favorite summer hangouts, The Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden in Astoria. Almost one hundred years old, this awesome beer garden has a courtyard that’s nearly an acre. It’s a very festive spot.
Now becoming popular even among Manhattanites, this bar has lines wrapped around the block in the summer. They also barbecue kielbasa and portobello mushrooms, which adds to the carnival atmosphere. Last night, the crowd wasn’t as large and the barbecue was closed, but the place was still lively and they were still serving food. There was also a white tent set up, which provided some shelter from the slight evening chill.

While I always enjoy drinking outside in this wonderful bar, it did feel very odd to be doing this in January.

i love the beer garden! i went there right after i moved here back in like september so it was pretty nice out then as well. it reminded me of the german american festival that we have back in ohio that i missed out on that month. great place.
I have a friend who lives in Astoria, and when I asked her to take me to Beer Garden 2 weeks ago, she said it was horrible when the weather is not nice… I will have to yell at her.
