Christiana, count your blessings! I agree that it can be a stress-reliever. But, in NYC, you are too contained at all times to think that it won't affect other people. This is the land of fast paced people, and honking just reminds everyone in front, behind, and around you that you are stuck in a motionless oblivion. Granted, LA can easily lay claim to being the hometown of traffic, but NYC's traffic is of a different sort. Buildings and people all around you, and knowing you are on a very small, contained island (Manhattan traffic only) does not help! Even the most steady handed become claustrophobic.

On an unrelated note, Sacramento is beautiful! I will be in the area next week for business. Looking forward to it!

Are you from NYC originally? I'm from LA originally and I think - based purely on non-scientific, worthless, anecdotal evidence, that native EastCoasters are more honk-tolerant than we left-coasters. I think we don't honk enough out here. Honking is a great stress release. Some ass cuts you off? Honk that horn - otherwise you may risk road-raging and that helps no one.
