A weekend of nothing

I had a lot of plans this Saturday. Go to the Tompkins Square Park Halloween dog parade and check out the scary events at Grand Central, among random errands.

But the dog parade was rained out and postponed till Sunday, and it turned out the Grand Central stuff was on Sunday too – duh! And since it was my dad’s birthday (damn him!), I couldn’t go to either event. But the weekend wasn’t a total wash.

On my wanderings, I spotted some cool left-wing graffiti. . .

Then I had a celebrity sighting. My schedule this weekend seemed concurrent with that of the Tampa Bay Bucaneers. When I was at Grand Central, their buses pull up in front of the Grand Hyatt. I hung around as though I’d recognize any of them (thought I did, didn’t). Then Sunday morning on my way to Penn Station, I spotted the same buses waiting for them to check out.

I’ve had a few star sightings these past few weeks. First Doris Roberts from Everybody Loves Raymond on 57th and 3rd, looking exactly as she looks on television, except spacier. Then Keri Russell and her curly-haired self on 3rd Ave in the upper 70s. She seemed tiny in an oversized parka but her face was beautiful even as she noticed me staring and turned away annoyed. Whaddya expect, Felicity? Don’t be on TV if you don’t want to be recognized.

Finally, I saw something far scarier than any horror movie. . .

Be afraid, be very very afraid.
