Sugarcane Juice

So in another entry for India v. NYC, we examine the juicing process. I don’t know how Tropicana does it and I know if I order juice at a restaurant in NYC, I’m getting something from a can or a box. Not in India friends. Orange, pineapple, mosumbi (close cousin of the orange but less tart), chikoo (fruit native to India), coconut, grapes, oh hell every fruit you could think of is juiced fresh as you order it. Below, a few photos of sugarcane juice I enjoyed in Goa.

The best part was that this was only 7 Rs. $1 = 46 Rs. By the way if you go to India and order juice make sure you tell them to make it fresh and not to add any other masalas (spices). Also always drink it without ice.

HA! What the poster neglects to mention is massive swarms of flies that surround these juice stands. The cululative power of their wings could generate a small tornado. I wouldn’t even breath next to one of those machines.

I dunno, man. Where I work, we juice 5 oranges for each orange juice.

Right after you order it. It’s why we hate making them.

Hahaman….yes there are flies, but then there are also other places that you can buy it from.

Dhaval….dunno if you have tried “Ganna” Juice…as sugarcane juice is called….in Mumbai. One place that I strongly suggest….is Varanasi Juice Center at Colaba opposite the Yacht Club.

Super hygeinic, extra large quantity, amazingly fresh and perfect value for money.

Try it, if you dont like it, Ill pay for the glass !!

Just back from India myself (Hi Dhaval!)

Guesstimate about the cane juice: a 12-oz glass might equal the calories in a 1-liter Coke, so not that big a deal.

Chikoo tastes about as sweet as cane juice, by the way. Most things I tried there I liked, but chikoo was so sweet it turned my stomach. Custard apples (I can’t remember the real name) were tasty but messy.
