We’re Not #1!
Finally, a list worth not being on! The US Census just released a study of the nation’s counties with the highest property taxes. The results are pretty interesting since the top 10 counties in the list are all in the NYC metro area, but none are actually in NYC.
Westchester County takes the top stop and my hometown of Rockland County is solid at #6. Manhattan (New York County) falls at #62 while my current home town of Brooklyn (Kings County) is at #189! Of course no one is saying that it is inexpensive to live in New York City–there are plenty of other really high taxes that we all pay living here. But at least we’re doing something right.
