Gawker Hates New York City

A week after I removed Gawker from my RSS feeds list, they write the most idiotic and vitriolic rant about why New York sucks. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

I will post more later in response, but for now go and read it. All I have to say for now is that my secretary who is from Long Island loves it.

Okay, I read the idiotic rant, the fact that I even read such a ridiculous piece of crap is personally embarrassing.

So, should I lend it an ounce of dignity by actually responding? Although I have a solid argument against each allegation he made against the city of New York, I shall save my argument for some reasonably intelligent individual who might actually understand that New York does dictate a great deal of American life. He could probably not wrap his little mind around it and would end up with a horrible head ache. Then I would feel guilty and have to buy this fool an asprin.

But, instead I think I will refer only to his use of the word “douche bag” several times in that stupid manifesto. When a man uses sexist terms so frequently, it is usually an indication of some hidden feeling of ‘inadequacy’…..if ya know what I mean. (wink..wink)

So, maybe that is what this is really all about.

It was sensationalistic but I do think he/she brought up some interesting, though well-trodden, points. And I don’t think they truly meant New York is _over_. I’ve always identified a bit of curmudgeonly ironic self-awareness, which the essay embodies, as part of the New York City experience. You can’t be *that* cranky and take yourself too seriously at the same time. What I’m trying to say is – it’s just one person’s silly rant and nothing more.

Well I agree that it’s just one person’s silly rant. The points I had about NYC which I planned to write about are both negative & positive. I don’t know if I’ll do it right now or later, but it will not be a response to their little piece. It might be mentioned in passing.
