Celebrity Sighting? Nope!

Who’s Melissa with? Well, I can tell you that it’s NOT Steve Perry, but it sure does look like him doesn’t it.

My friends brought me to the Canal Room on Saturday to see Evolution, the Journey tribute band. I hate to admit this, but I had a BLAST! Hearing that music brought me back to the 80’s… without my big hair! These guys were actually quite good, I couldn’t get over it - and the crowd was just as fun. I spoke to a bunch of fans and so many of them said that they follow them everywhere and would rather see Evolution than Journey. Crazy shit. They were good, but I don’t think I’ll be traveling everywhere to see them.

After the show, I just had to get a picture with the lead singer… after the crowds died down. I think some people there actually believed that it was Journey. I didn’t have the heart to tell them otherwise.

They’ll be back at the Canal Room in October if anyone’s interested.

Those tribute band lead singers always get all the girls…

Dan… maybe you should test that theory out and start your own Tribute Band. Who would you cover? I’m really not sure I want to know the answser to that.

Tribute bands are such a funny idea. Let’s pick a band that we find good and be them to the best of our abilities because either a. we’re not good enough to do anything else or b. we’re just that creepy.

Alex, I couldn’t agree more. I also wonder if THEY believe that they are who they’re covering. I mean, they do have to spend a crazy amount of time perfecting their “act”.

I happen to have a close friend who is a recovering tribute band member and he has told me at length about the delusion of these guys…they really believe they are the band (and in some cases that they are better) and take it all VERY seriously. He squirmed during that film “Rockstar”–hit too close to home, I guess…

Anyway, that is a GREAT photo!

No need to test the theory, I already got the one woman I need.

What’s the difference between a “tribute band” and karaoke? These “bands” get paid for what they do, don’t they? Hmmm….
