Chocolate Coma

So, in an attempt to get my friend out of the Upper West Side, I lured her downtown with the promise of chocolate.

Off to Union Square to Max Brenner’s, Chocolate by the Bald Man. Holy crap, this place is insane. I think it belongs more in Times Square than Union Square, but I guess if it were there, I wouldn’t have had such an enjoyable chocolate experience. I still can’t believe how much chocolate I consumed and without really going overboard. Especially with an entire book/menu of sweet things.

I started off with the Suckao. A concentrated chocolate shot. They bring you over a small tray with 5 items:

1. A shot of milk on top of this egg shaped contraption that has a tea light candle inside of it to keep the milk warm
2. A small bowl with bits of chocolate in it - chocolate to add to the milk, and more than you need to melt down for such a small shot
3. A small serving of more milk - in the event you make your shot too chocolaty. Turns out you can use that to make one more shot, in case one wasn’t enough.
4. A small spoon - that looks more like a mini shovel - to insert the chocolate. Cool thing about the shovel is that it’s also a straw so that you can sip your shot.
5. A “Caution Hot Beverage Sign” - I didn’t read the little sign, I was way too distracted by all the chocolate.

I should have just stopped there, but we had already ordered the Melting Chocolate Heart Cake to share. Jeez. Warm Chocolate cake with melted dark and white chocolate hearts, fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream and warm chocolate sauce. OVERLOAD!!!

So, will I go there again? Maybe. I’m hoping that the coma that I will soon slip into will make me forget that I was ever there.

I’m sure this place is packed like mad during the week, but this late Sunday night was bearable.
Enjoy!
