15 Minutes till Iced Coffee is over

Why, asks Anna, are people making such a big fuss about $2? Because Anna, free iced coffee on a hot day is a good thing. It’s not about the $2. It’s not about it being Starbucks either. It could be the local guy offering up free iced coffee and everyone would be just as excited not necessarily because they are saving a measly 2 bucks, but because it’s a nice thought. It’s nice to be treated. It’s nice to have someone say “you know what? fuck it, I don’t want your money, let me give you some free coffee.” It’s also nice from a marketing perspective because you will remember that on the hottest days in New York City history, you had a free iced coffee. Chances are you will have a positive association with this free coffee and the person/company/thing that gave it to you. I’m drinking mine now and let me tell you, it’s delicious.

still a marketing ploy above nicety. Don’t think that Starbucks giving out free coffee or Citibank making sure to THANK you for banking there means that they think you’re a Real Person not just a Customer.

Perhaps I was most pissed off by my morning security guard’s ripping me out of shuffle land by imploring me to read the sign she wrote up that morning informing all employees that Starbucks Was To Give Out FREE ICED COFFEE. OMG! FREE COFFEE!!!!!!!

It’s just like the Ben and Jerry’s free cone day. I’d rather go any other day, not wait in line, and pay $2.

    Big deal!

A marketing ploy it most certainly is and most people know that. I had no crowds and no one in the STarbucks I went to was taking advantage of it. It’s just something about FREE that makes it good. I understand that they’re not “nice guys” and that they want more of my money for the addictive substance they sell.

It’s just nice not to have to pay one day.
