Atlantic Grill: Yummy Food, Yucky People
This weekend was a busy one for brunchers, lunchers, and dinner, um, -ers, what with it being both Passover and Easter. This didn’t stop a couple of friends and myself from trying to get into the think-they’re-so-swank Atlantic Grill for brunch on Easter Sunday.
The night before we tried making reservations for 11 AM, only to be told that they simply could not accomodate us. It was Easter Sunday after all. Still we took a chance and popped over at 11:30. Two-third’s empty and the place is HUGE. Really? Can’t accomodate us?
“We’re expecting about 300 people any minute,” we were told by the hostess. But we could sit outside if we wanted.
Two of us were fine with us - after all it was a gorgeous day - but our third party insisted on being seated inside and wouldn’t stop talking till we were. (In the meantime the two of us had moved about 10 feet away and were suddenly engrossed in a painting on the wall.) Somehow, miraculously, they were able to seat us.
At first our waitress seemed nice. But then I went and had to ask for milk. This was after she had already poured our coffee. I even asked my companions, “There’s no milk on the table, right? I’m not blind.” They confirmed my non-blindness.
“Can I have some milk please?” I asked her as she passed by.
No eye contact. Only the faintest of nods. The ever-so-slight lifting of the nose.
Oooo-kay.
Next my friend asked for a bellini. Because it was before noon, and because apparently New York still has blue laws in place that prohibit the selling of alcohol before 12 PM on a Sunday, the waitress said she could bring it then. Noon passed, as well as 12:15, as well as 12:30. My friend very nicely reminded her and the waitress acted like it was a brand new request, and not only a brand new request but one that put her out. Needless to say, she didn’t apologize.
Don’t get me wrong: the food was good. I had an egg white omelet with muenster cheese and tomatoes. And cheap too. Brunch - and they don’t skimp out on servings either - with coffee and drinks will only set you back around $16.
But it’s just that: food. We all eat it and it all comes out the same place. Don’t start getting all attitudinal on us, Atlantic Grill, just cuz you’ve got some nice tablecloths and rocking bread.

I once had really good Indian food in Las Vegas but the service was absolutely terrible.
I don’t think these places should be supported. That or they should fire the lame-waiting staff and hire one to compliment their food.
It’s effing ridiculous.
yeah, even though the food was really good, i don’t think i want to go there again, just cuz they were so snooty.
