WNYC Story Corps

The StoryCorps project is an opportunity for the average Joe & Jill to record their lives and have them be saved in Congressional records for eternity. People come in and interview others in the booth and the best ones get aired on WNYC. The interviews vary from personal stories about war, losing homes in Katrina, to today’s interview by a person of her lover’s manic-depressive grandmother.

It’s sponsored by NPR and you can listen to it on WNYC, 93.9 (even on the web) on Fridays. I almost was brought to tears by today’s story. It was simple, but almost made me cry and they usually are pretty damn emotional. A wonderful & innovative way to archive personal American history.

There currently are 2 different locations where you can record an interview in NYC. One in Lower Manhattan and one at Grand Central Terminal. Visit their site to make your booth reservation and interview.

wow, what a weird coincidence, dhaval. friday’s piece was the first storycorps segment i’d ever heard on wnyc, and i too was quite moved by it. i just about never listen to the radio on friday mornings (i don’t know why), but i happened to be up puttering around this past friday, getting ready to catch a train, when this piece came on.

anyway, thanks for posting the info.

No problem. I love Story Corps - it’s really a great idea.
