Let’s get Personal
As I sit here listening to obscure French music, awaiting the first blizzard (woo!) of the year, I thought I’d make complete use of this blog and document my grandparents’ flight back to India tomorrow. There was a family emergency a few days ago that essentially was the cause of this trip, but besides that, NYC, for those who speak little English (very surprisingly) is not the most engaging place to be. Sure, if they only travel amongst certain circles and we arrange them to go to other people’s houses, it is possible for them to talk to people their age in their native language, but most of the times the conversations are about how great the old country is and how miserable they are here.
While I’m out and about, they sit at home with the parents, watching SONY Entertainment Television and Zee TV (Indian channels that you can get through satellite). This is their only connection to their motherland. They sit around, watch tv, and do not have many people to talk with, as opposed to India where they have literally hundreds of people to communicate with throughout the day.
Though it is sad to see them leave, they were not too happy here because NYC to them was a house in the suburbs with minimal human interaction.
But, now they have to face this final hurdle, the first blizzard of Winter 2005-06. Will the cute Indian grandparents make their flight? Will they have to spend one or more days away from the tropical climate of India? Or will they flee this tundra-like eskimo existence and move onto freedom, mangoes, and comfort of their beloved homeland.
Find out tomorrow! Same multicultural time, same multicultural blog!

hope your grandparents get out in time.
Cute overloads with grandparents would be totally sweet! There should be a Web site like the one with photos of cute kittens . . . Thanks for the well-wishes, we’ll see what happens!
