Ssshhhh… It’s Tax Free Week!
How come nobody told me it’s tax free week? How are NYC residents supposed to hear about this stuff? Does the city only promote it to tourists?
I haven’t watched NY1 in ages, and I only read the New York Times online (I guess they don’t consider “tax free week” a top story) so maybe it’s my own fault I’m uninformed. The first I heard about it was in a promotional email I just got from a clothing store in Williamsburg. Yes, I get my news from junk email. Anyway, in case you hadn’t heard either, you have until 2/5 to buy clothes and shoes tax free…as long as they’re under $110.
I’m still kind of iffy on whether it’s worth battling the crowds to find some new sneakers. Tax or not, it seems like it would just be easier to buy them online. Here’s a list of themed shopping weeks that might actually get me to a store:
line free week
stupid-customer-in-front-of-me free week
screaming-child free week
people-who-stand-still-in-the-middle-of-the-escalator free week
worker-who-can’t-run-the-register free week
changing-room-that-smells-like-pee free week
Wait, I just realized all the things that make me cranky have happened at the Macy’s in Herald Square. Tax-free shoppers, be warned.
