Breakthroughs in talks,

No Timetable Is Announced on Resumption of Service

After meeting with both sides through the night, state mediators have devised a preliminary framework for a settlement of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority contract dispute that would allow strikers to return to work later today, according to four people close to the negotiations. The earlier graphic was conveying what was in a way a practical implication. The TWU and MTA are agreeing to continue negotiations, while keeping the subways and buses running.

    not to rain on the parade, but “over” is definitely jumping the gun… it’s a ray of light, to be sure, but the return of transit service is far from imminent.

    Yeah, uh… I would definitely recommend either removing this post or seriously editing it. There’s been some breakthroughs, but the strike is still on, and the trains and buses are still NOT running.

    Sorry. I wasnt trying to be a sensationalist. Was just trying to convey an emotion. One of sigh and relief, that the deadlock had been broken. From what I read on NYT, its a matter of a few hours before the subways start moving.

    Of course anything can go wrong in those few hours. But then I am ever the optimist. Hence !!
