Ahhh yes, the famous dangling carrot, aka the Transportation Bond Act featuring the Second Avenue Subway.

    Five bucks says:

    1. They’ll never break ground on it. Period.

    2. When the times come to pay back on those bonds, the interest will be so high that the MTA will be in a huge defecit.

    3. Service cuts and fair hikes will be in the mix.

    4. The TWU and Roger Toussaint will gripe that there isn’t enough cashola for them and will strike.

Any takers? This bond issue will NEVER be used for any actual projects. It’s a hell of a lot more likely to be used to give Peter Kalikow a raise.

Well that makes me feel better - I honestly hope they NEVER break ground on it. Who wants to see the streets torn up for 12 years - no to mention all the people kicked out their homes (possibly me), all the people that aren’t kicked out that will put up with unbearable noise 24 hours a day, all the businesses that will go out because of no foot traffic, all the increased traffic on all avenues near Second Avenue, etc. The list goes on and on. Come on people - is the 6 really that bad? I think not.

We need a water taxi system here that is affordable and makes sense. Especially given the direction the world is headed. It would be a safer alternative to the train (should one be needed), cheaper than taxis, and definitely faster than taking the bus.

    Something to think about.

It’s a tough call as there hasn’t been a new subway line in something like 60 years yet the population has grown so much. It’s common sense that they will need to improve the subway infrastructure and the resulting noise, delays and upheaval will be worth it in the end. But tell that to the thousands of people who lost their homes when the BQE was built. I just don’t think the second ave subway is worth all that, but then again that is not really a route I personally travel too often.
