Weekend Update

This weekend was so crazy busy, I didn’t even have time to blog! But here’s what you missed:

Movies With a Chair: Brooklyn Bridge Film Series, Movies With A View screened Chinatown on Thursday. And this time I splurged on a $5 foldable lawn chair provided by the organizers. You get free popcorn and your extremities don’t fall asleep while you try to shift around into a more comfortable position. Next week, Big Fish, and the week after that (last one!) Mister Roberts.

Blast From the Past: Brooklyn Critical Mass took place Friday evening. There were cops. And they escorted us! It was like the Manhattan Critical Mass about a year ago! It was a rather stop-and-go slow ride but nevertheless fun because we weren’t stressed out and high on adrenaline! Yet, there was always this sneaking feeling that the cops might turn on us. They didn’t.
They escorted us all the way to our final destination, Lillie’s in Red Hook. After inviting some cops to have a beer with us (they politely declined, yet assured us that they would be throwing back some after their shift) about half the group (30ish) descended on the two totally unprepared bartenders but we were nevertheless drinking High Life within a few minutes. A pleasant sprinkle cooled our sweaty and sticky skin as we relaxed in the tiki-themed backyard. No arrests were made.

Free Stuff If You Can Stand the Heat: Dog Ear Studio’s Lions & Virgins took place Saturday night. Intrigued by the free open bar from 10pm - 4am, some friends and I trekked out to the secret location (a warehouse in Brooklyn near the Manhattan Bridge) hoping for an air conditioned party. No such luck. It was about 10 degrees hotter than outside at about 100% humidity.
Upon entry we were given some raffle tickets and while my boyfriend went ahead and ordered some drinks (generous Tanqueray Ten and Gin, can’t complain), my friend, Colleen, and I scoped out the raffle deal. We handed over the tickets and were promptly presented with media card readers that allow the user to store media files on their ipod (sort of like a duming device for your memory card). Cool. Too bad I gave my iPod away to my brother several months ago. Colleen’s b/f also presented his and my bf’s ticket and had to argue with the guy (who put up about 5 secs of resistance) to get, instead of the card reader, the sweet JBL “on the road” speakers.
At this point in the evening (having been there exactly seven minutes) we were already sweating buckets. Moving toward the open window was no better and we quickly decided to take off as soon as we’d finished our drinks, which couldn’t be fast enough. We grabbed our loot and got out of that crazy hot and muggy space. But, hey with $170 worth of equipment in our pockets it was certainly no wasted trip. (Pics to follow tonight.)
