Sad to see you go so young…

Back when NYC Metblogs started in June of 2004 we enlisted a blogger named Keith Alexander in our ranks. I never met Keith, but he made some lasting contributions on this blog during our infancy. I found our today via Boing Boing that Keith died yesterday in a bike accident. There was very little additional info, but Xeni Jardin wrote a nice memoriam for him chronically their online friendship. This news is also mentioned on Xentastic.

Unfortunately our archival system is a bit wonky now so I can

please let this also be a reminder to always wear a helmet while riding your bike and be careful on nyc streets! there are just too many accidents that take the lives of cyclists every day, especially in nyc.

Indeed–Boing Boing updated their site with this link http://www.ephemeroi.com/unsleeping/arkv/003642.html to someone who witnessed the incident and says he wasn’t wearing a helmet. That was a big mistake, but it is of course still very sad.

    Dana,

Wanted to thank you for posting about Keith - he meant everything to me and I will miss him dearly.

I’ve heard from people from all around the world over the last few days saying how much he touched their lives. He was an unbelieveably wonderful man and will be missed by many.

Dear Melissa. I have posted this another place before but… I am still very saddened.

I am really, really saddened that my relative past away. Keith was visiting me in summer 1979 & 1999, and he was really a funny and interesting man. I am his same aged cousin from Trondheim. I will think of him and pray for him for ever. -Sorry Keith that my planned trip to you never can be real, but i will visit you later in heaven. Love for all of us.

God bless you Melissa, and say hello to Kari Ann and Keiths mam.

    Ole Petter
