Hey Jack--I was completely with you until I saw your dumbass comment as "Opie". yeah we can tell you are the same person even if you use a different name. There's that whole timestamp/IP address log thang. Excuse me while I go back to flipping burgers. Yeah, right...

Rent control is the stupidest thing, especially in this case. So a landlord is supposed to provide an apartment at below-market rates? So (a) no one will want to buy a rent-controlled apartment from the landlord -- the return on investment is so not worth it, (b) the landlord has no incentive to keep improve the property because he's not going to see one red cent come out of it, (c) leading to slumlords. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be affordable housing. Just like food stamps and Section 8 housing, there is a way for the government to help the needy without making it the responsibility of a business owner. Do you get price-controlled hamburgers at McDonalds? Does the government set the price? No; the market decides for itself (ok, this might be a bad example; there have been cases in the market where collusion in price-setting has occurred). I am thankful that I don't live in a rent-control city; I can charge my tenants what they think is a fair price; if I overcharge, they can look elsewhere. This also gives me the incentive to make improvements and repairs on a timely basis because I want to keep good tenants who pay market rent on time.

Recently I was at an event where Cyndi Lauper was appearing. I found myself next to her and thought it would be a great opportunity to meet her and capture a photo. When I said hi and asked if she would mind posing for a picture with me, she got a disgusted look on her face, shook her head and said, "No!"

It was a very quick way to lose a fan! It's too bad she didn't want to take a second to recognize a fan at a CHARITY event. I could understand if she was in the middle of a conversation and I had interrupted, but she was standing by herself at a charity function. It blows my mind!

If any of you crazed commenters had bothered to actually READ what I wrote in the this post and the original one referenced, you would know that my central argument was that she HAS NOT lived in that apartment continuously since 1971 which is THE requirement for being eligible for rent stabilization. That's it. End of story. Whether or not you like Cyndi Lauper is irrelevant in this matter (although arguable questionable)

Oh give it rest buddy,

I bet Cyndi probably pays $60,000 to $80,000

in property taxes on her house in Connecticut,

do you pay $60,000 to $80,000 in property taxes

just to keep your house (Cyndi bought it in the 80's and with appreciation it probably cost her a fortune just to live there).

Awesome--I would personally like to thank all the members of the "Cyndi Lauper Fanatics Club" that showed up and commented tonight. All 3 of you have made some inspirational arguments (some of them over and over again) that have really forced me to stop and think about what I said. So I stopped. And I thought. Yeah, that's about it. How nice of you to actually read what I had to say in this post (and the previous one) before flipping out like a bunch of Cyndi Lauper thumping lemmings. Perhaps someone has learned their lesson and will only comment once from now on, instead of saying the same exact thing 8 times in a row. Keep it coming trolls...I love to watch you stutter!

The Daily News supported Cyndi in this issue too.

<a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/324262p-277070c.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/324262p-277070c.html</a>

As did the NY Times.

So it's not like any of the experts said she did anything wrong, just some very jealous hostile people.
