Mind the Gap!

Being a college student, for me there is still a big gap between “the Real World” and “Campus Life.” On campus, you can wear sweatpants everywhere; in the real world, you look acceptable before you leave your door. On campus, you get belligerently drunk and someone - anyone - will take care of you; in the real world, you just don’t get that trashed. On campus, you can wear any manner of teeny tiny miniskirt, any day of the week; in the real world, if you’re wearing a skirt so short that you can’t sit on the low seats of the L train, you take a cab to the club.

Apparently, this gap does not exist.

After spending a delightful weekend at my undergraduate institution, I came back to the city to see more similarities than differences between the worlds I thought were so very different. Largely for the better - in the real world, people I don’t know will talk to me, there is free alcohol and food to be found, and you can absolutely fake being somewhere you don’t belong. Not to go all Carrie Bradshaw but, do we ever really graduate ?

You get free alcohol and food in the real world? WHERE?!

Free food at school is going to be the thing I miss most about college. But, I guess it’s for the better — I really don’t need all that food anyway.
