PSA: Saving some Greyhounds

On April 26th the greyhound track in Plainfield, CT (about 2 hours outside of NYC) voted that they would discontinue greyhound racing, which is great news and a huge step in the right direction towards ending this type of animal cruelty.

Originally they decided that rescuers had only two weeks to get the dogs out, and any dogs remaining at the track on May 14th would be euthanized. Just yesterday they extended that deadline but there is still a lot of work to be done. This is a huge task because there are at least 500 dogs currently at the track. These are all young, healthy dogs, 2-4 years of age, who would make great family pets. If you are looking for a dog (and lucky enough to have the space to house once comfortabley in NYC) here’s a great chance to adopt a greyhound and give it the life it deserves.

The Dakin Shelter handling the greyhound adoptions is also looking for donations, volunteers and/or foster care, so you can still help even if you don’t have the means to actually adopt a dog.
