Valkyrie Needs Food–badly!

Wow, we are all a bunch of slackers! The month of December is coming to a close and this will be the fourth post. FOUR!?! Seriously, WTF? I have been over here trapped in my own personal hell and following a self-imposed “If you can’t blog anything nice, don’t blog anything at all” rule–what’s everyone else’s excuse?

With this post my long blogging draught comes to a close–I finally have something worth writing about! Last night my boyfriend and I checked out this bar a few blocks from our new home. Barcade

Yeah, but did they have ZAXXON? Just reading a description of the game brings it all back for me.

ZAXXON takes you across alien asteroid fortresses on a special mission. The evil robot Zaxxon and its fierce armies have conquered an asteroid belt. You must stop them before they enslave the galaxy!

Find a niche in the wall on the first asteroid, then dive to the enemy surface. Evade fire from turrets, mobots and enemy ships as you search for

the Robot Warrior. Once you successfully cross the asteroid, you rush off into deep space. Lock horns with enemy squadrons combing the galaxy in

search of your fighter. Can you thwart the evil Zaxxon?

It was really cool for its day. At the time of its release, Zaxxon was unique as it was the first game to employ isometric projection, something of a three-quarters viewing perspective. This effect simulated three dimensions (albeit from the viewpoint of a second person).

Can anyone say: “The Last Starfighter”?

Honestly I don’t remember Zaxxon. Maybe I would if I saw it. Jay asked me the same question though, for your sake. But with a little creative googling tbis article from the Village Voice reviews the bar and mentions Zaxxon so I am assuming they have it.

I’ll check it out next time I go and report back.

Zaxxon was one of the best games of all time. Altho Gauntlet was right up there for me also. I still get a pang of fear in my gut at the thought of having to outrun death.

Ever since Palm came out with the Atari Retro game card (which I had to buy), I found myself longing for the old days. Days gone by, when Atari and ColecoVision and the Commodore 64 had consummed all other possible hours other than the “not in school” or “not in bed” ones.. Oh the hours upon hours of pure zombie-like repetitious entertainment they provided and of course they took center stage for the many sibling battles that went on back then…. Suddenly rekindled with the fire for the old ways, I dug out the old Atari system and bag full of old games that I had buried somewhere up in my parent’s house. I was determined to relive a bit of the old glory…and well, suffice it to say… it took a few ebay purchases to fill in the electronic blanks left by the years. I sat down for the first time on my apartment floor and with a catch in my throat..flipped the on switch to play the original game of Adventure….and it worked!!!! I tried so hard to find that little dot, the little blinking/flashing dot that I remember opened up new rooms….if only I could remember!!!!! It was somewhere in the black castle and you needed the bridge to get to it and then with the damn bat stealing everything constantly!!!!!! UGH!!!!! Anyway, it was a short time of reliving the memories of Stampede, Pitfall, Haunted house..etc…. It was great….and after all of that time and effort to get the damn thing to work….well, put it this way…. I haven’t touched it since. Isn’t that funny. Truth is… I think I prefer my Supernintendo… now also a relic of sorts….. Such sweet memories though…..and I know I will return once again, one day, to scratch that little nostalgic itch for childhood things….sigh…..
