as new yorkers, we get so used to the grind of crazy commutes, speed walking, and stinky sidewalks. admittedly, too much of this can make you feel crazy. that’s why it’s so important to get out of town sometimes and surround oneself with beautiful scenes of the natural world (can i be more obvious that i’m from cali? haha). there’s a program named forever wild that lists the many natural areas that you can visit. under each site, there should be directions, but it looks like they’re still developing that part.
If you should go, please post a comment and let us all know which one you decided to check out!

did you ever think that you could pick fresh fruits, instead of just your nose? well, at a number of different orchards around the nj and ny area, you can! right now is apple and pumpkin season, and some of these orchards even have $1 hayrides. the place i’ve been to is called battleview orchards in freehold, nj. i don’t think that it’s very accessible without a car, but that’s what car shares are for, right? there are a number of places in upstate ny that i believe are close to trains, but you’ll have to look them up individually. here are some sites to check out: this site or this site.
enjoy!

There is a first time for everything. I always see the stereotypical New York City mugging in bad movies. I always find it really funny and tell myself that stuff like that does not really happen here. Well guess what it does because today after living in this city for my whole life I was mugged (Well attempted). I wish I had a really exciting story involving guns and knives but I don

I needed coffee. There are four coffee shops within a two-block radius of my apartment. Since I’m lazy, I usually hit the closest one, which is right across the street. Sounds like a good plan, no? Well, no. Because that coffee shop is populated by what seems to be the standard in this neighborhood: new parents. I was the only person there not pushing a stroller or carrying one of those backpacks-for-your-baby that goes in the front. I feel like I should just ditch the messenger bag and get myself a stroller so I can at least fit in. I mean, think about how much more stuff I’d be able to cart around with me. The jumbo bottle of water, a selection of reading materials, several changes of clothes and footwear. Yeah, it may be a pain to get on the subway, but at least I’d have a guaranteed seat…

Not to brag, but the New York Metblog has a pretty sweet crew of writers and a few additions coming soon, but we’re always looking for new peeps wanting to participate in this social experiment. If you want to start typing away about cool stuff happening in any of the 5 boroughs (and have the time to post at least once a week) fill out this application and hopefully you’ll be posting in no time.

In my opinion they are the best new band of 2004 and they are gracing our city with their presence tonight and tomorrow at Irving Plaza. If you don’t know who The Killers are, do yourself a favor and crawl out from under that rock—good music is now coming out of Las Vegas! Who would have thought? With influences such as New Order, Oasis, David Bowie and Morrissey, their music represents a new form of perfect pop, blending heavy guitar with even heavier synth all wrapped up in a nice 80’s retro package.
I’ll be at the show tonight. And I will expect to see you there. I know, I know, it’s sold out–get creative!

Did someone count how many times Bush said “it’s hard work” or “everyone knows it’s hard work”? Sheesh! come up with something knew, cuz as far as I can see it didn’t take much for you to fuck the US and Iraq.
